Please enjoy the following image of an adult hermaphrodite Caenorhabditis elegans nematode worm stained with DAPI under 100x magnification, taken at the University of Glasgow on 3 July 2026.

Most clearly visible here are the two gonadal arms, including early stage oocytes, fully developed oocytes, and spermatheca containing compact sperm cells.

I am quite proud of this picture, as it took a surprising amount of effort to create. I think it turned out rather well.

To capture your own images through the eyepiece lens of a light microscope, hold your camera a centimeter or so away from one of the lenses, or about as far away as the lenses of your eyes are when you look through the eyepiece.
